Summit

A proud group of scouts have made their way up the mountain, tired no doubt for all the physical effort required to have made it this far.

They stand and sit looking out at the beautiful scene they have by their own efforts have got themselves to enjoying it.

They can indeed stand tall holding their heads up high for they have shown the true spirit of Scouting.

Camp food prep

The pack and its leader are altogether at on logs that are like improvised benches armed with the pans and billy cans ready to chop and peel food into in groups ready to go on the big fire to cook their meal.

Fresh food stuffs are generally speaking much healthier so provided you get from on location it makes sense to use them preparing yourself which is also a skill worth teaching through scouting even if it is just how to peel and cut carrots and potatoes.

Going back over the point first

Back at base we are going over the instructions for assembling our kit carefully in groups.

One thing you learn sometimes the hard way is you need to read instructions from the start to finish so you know exactly what you need at which point and so are ready for it which may apply to just building a kit or to do with your scouting generally.

Teaching practical and thinking skills is something I consider to be important.

Taking care of situations

One thing that cannot be ignored if you are going on your own is the need to practice how to handle medical situations and it appears in this picture these two scouts are being shown a procedure.

There are something you can treat yourself  but knowing when you have reached your limits and need professional help is vital.

Learning about things

Of course camp isn't just about time being away, it is an opportunity to learn about new things and maybe even give them ago such as traditional glass blowing as ably demonstrated here by this scout who is doing well at it having seen this for myself.
