Spooky crafts

 

I was away across the weekend where we celebrated halloween in style playing games, having fun and here are two Jack o' Lanterns we made together lit by tea lights which is why there's a hole on the top.

I'm quite sure many beavers, cubs and scounts tok part in similar activities this weekend.

Halloween Edition 2024

 

This weekend I was off to a Halloween special which back in the 70's and early 80's wasn't really a thing because we marked All Souls Day which was more british and rather less merchandisingly friendly - we made our own toffee apples and that.

This is a Blanker Badge you too can sow onto your Scouts Blanket showing the current Scouts Family.

Halloween 2023 edition

Time was when All Saint's Day was more what we marked with events but that almost seems like ages ago as Halloween has become the de facto for around October 30/31st.

Although this is American as is Trick And Treat, scouts can put on a short show with costumes and skits based around Halloween and ghoulish goings on and in places they do.

You may have arranged and event that incorporate taking part in games that count towards your badges, some arts and crafts halloween themed activities which is what I was up to this week and generally have a great time.

This was one for Beavers and Cubs.

One activity you can do easily is making face masks with a spooky theme which is what these  Beavers have done which is rather fun.

Scouting, whatever program you are is was always meant to be fun even as we learn new skills that will help us along the way in life so having fun together such as for halloween is such a great idea even if "Bobbing the Apple"  which we did for All Saint's no longer features.

Spooky Bonfire Season

We are at that inbetween stage between Halloween which has just gone and Guy Fawkes Night which is to come Saturday where we don't usually publish on here.

I recall Penny For The Guy but never Penny for the scout!

At the sort of age you'd be in Beavers or especially Cubs or Scouts these two events are very much a part of your social currency, attending, having a role within them or making something for them.

Not unsurprisingly it does with me so recently while away, I made this lantern although it was meant to be supported  on an apax really.

Equally I enjoyed being suitably wrapped up a traditional Bonfire and Fireworks display which with the crackling, smell of smoke and colourful fireworks whizzing through the air in star shapes just took me back to my yoouth and what I loved about the Scout Firework displays I attended.

Spooky weekend edition

Having fun at halloween is something that's always been popular one reason it's in Scouting apart from using skills you can learn while doing so.

You could perform a little review with funny halloween based skits for everyone to enjoy

We can enjoy a b-bq and toasted marshmallows together while wearing fancy dress and singing songs while holding camp.

Even make lanterns with scouting based designs

Now who doesn't want to do it?

Halloween

Tis the season to be spooky and the various sections of Scouting organize events such as competitions, games and the like such as a fancy dress event.

 This was one organized by a Beaver Colony just over a decade ago with ghosts, werewolves and the like putting in an appearence which no doubt was an absolute hoot for all involved.

Sometimes older traditions such as "bobbing" the apple happen which used to be the case when we marked All Saints rather more as society adapted the mainly American rituals.

Halloween weekend

 Things were going on during the weekend because it was Halloween so I was out enjoying it.

Like a number of people I do enjoy taking part in lantern making cutting and scooping out a pumpkin before inserting a lit tea light and watching it in the dark evening sky.

I was with friends so we had a bonfire and many fireworks going off such as catherine wheels with bright colourful geometric shapes.

I was just so enjoyable to make things, play games and have fun together.
