On the move

Bank Holiday for  eightieth VE Day anniversary is over with and typically the weather here has improved as I strolled down the canal earlier on today with the ducks out navigating before the humans get going from mid morning onwards.

Ay up duck!

While out at the weekend I saw six ducks of which one was on grassy verge awaiting some food but there were no swans about which is a  bit odd as I would of expected them to be around at this time of year.

In a nearby allotment vegetables were being grown under polytunnels and many pigs were about foraging.

Ducks get everywhere

Continuing from where we were last Friday along that section of the canal you will often see Ducks, a good number of them who have been even known to explore the middle of this part of the era by the shops and major road to the consternation of many.

He was caught in the act of preening himself near a grassy bank but didn't wish to face me for some reason or other enjoying the relative peace and quiet.

Thankful dog owners were keeping their on leads and away from them.

This particular duck just would not go near a better backdrop probably because he was half expecting me to feed him from where the reeds were.

At one time bread tended to be used but that's really no good so corn if you honestly have to is a better idea.

At the moment the canal itself looks clear of plastic and aluminum. Let's hope it stays that way.

Outdoor reflections this winter

Been a fairly cold week or so here so have been well wrapped up but outdoors watching the squirrels at play and even treated to extended birdsong this morning while out in my new duffle coat Paddington style in the local woods exploring.

Of course around here it's not only in the woods and up in the nest towards the tops of the trees that you'll find life.

Take these four ducks for instance part of massive group swimming about on the canal where incidnetly there are the odd moored narrowboats to be found.

They're having a great time outdoors.

Why shouldn't we?

Aye up duck!

As I'm recovering here, there's a picture I took last week of one of our friends along the canal on one of the better days in good light as summer lighting can be too contrasting to record well whither or not it's film you used as I did in the early days of blogging or CCD sensors in your digital camera.

You can see his reflection and at the same time where his webbed feet are

Moving alongside the canal

It's a new month so we kick off with some "postcards" from my explorations picking up from where we had left off
That should be Photography Badge worthy with no after the event image processing as those ducks I mentioned on Wednesday put in another appearance, looking rather well fed.

I used the Telezoom end of the lens to separate the scene I wanted from many other potential pictures, framing it.
He had been spotted a few time in a small holding but was taken into paddocks when I spotted him on Thursday looking toward me, next to the piglets, on smallholding by the canal.
Talking of which you cannot have a canal without a barge (or if you insist a Narrow Boat) when I spotted these two by the bridge, the one to left more traditional, moored up, no doubt to use local facilities such as the local store before moving on.
